Most of y’all will be coming to Fort Clark on Hwy. 90…from the east or the west. Some will come north from Eagle Pass on Hwy. 131. Others might be coming south from Rock Springs on Hwy. 674 or from Camp Wood on Hwy. 334.

In any event…we’ll start our simple directions from the signal light at the intersection of Hwy. 90 and Hwy 674.

Hwy. 90 separates Fort Clark from the city of Brackettville. Fort Clark is on the south side of Hwy. 90 and Brackettville is on the north side. Reason being is that the old cavalry post was a military base and the city was a support community. You know…saloons and all.

Anyway…just east of the signal light at the junction of Hwy. 90 and Hwy. 674…and on the south side of Hwy. 90 is the entry gate to Fort Clark. Simply pass through the gate…and drive up to the security booth. Let the security guard know where you’re staying and they’ll give you a visitors’ pass which will allow you access to the Fort for the length of your stay.

Once you pass the security booth…drive on in…but not very far. The entry road Y’s…but stay to the right. You’ll see the bronze horse on the left and an old clubhouse on the right. Immediately past the clubhouse are two streets to the right that almost touch each other. Take the second one…just past the information box. That’s McKenzie Street. When you turn right on McKenzie…immediately on your left you will see two 1880s stone buildings that front the street. The second one is the Fort Clark Guest Quarters. The front unit is the General Patton. The back unit is the Colonel McKenzie.

There’s plenty of parking in front.
